What is a PASS ID card?
A PASS ID card is an official proof of age card, accredited by PASS, the UK’s national proof of age accreditation scheme. As well as a photo of you it has the unique PASS logo and hologram and it’s fully endorsed by official organisations such as the Home Office and The Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO). Because PASS carries these endorsements, venues and shops will recognise that your ID Card is the real deal, meaning they’ll be able welcome you into their establishments and sell age-restricted goods to you.
My ID Card is an official PASS ID card. Below you can see an example of a PASS ID card, including the unique hologram recognised by doormen, bar staff and retailers.
The PASS Scheme was put together by a group of industry representatives, drawn primarily from the licensed and retail trade in consultation with card scheme operators, trading standards and other stakeholders. It recently became a Community Interest Company, having previously operated through a limited company – PASSCo Ltd. The PASS hologram is a registered trademark which makes any type of forgery a criminal offence. The PASS Board is made up of an Independent Chairman and representatives of two trade associations representing proof of age acceptors and two card issuers, one commercial and one public sector.
My ID Card is the official, PASS-accredited photo ID card accepted by most clubs across the UK as well as in cinemas, bars, restaurants and shops selling age-restricted goods and services. It’s easy to apply for and it only costs £15. Plus, it’s fully endorsed by the Home Office and The Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO), the Security Industry Authority (SIA) and the Chartered Trading Standards Institute (CTSI) – so all those doormen you know and love are safe in the knowledge that it’s the official PASS ID.
Clubs, pubs, bars and shops are advised by the above organisations to accept all photo ID cards with the official PASS logo and hologram as proof of age. Every My ID Card features this unique hologram, which can be scanned and checked by the scanning machines you’ll find at many club entrances these days.
You might have heard myths from the olden days before official ID cards for clubs, when you could try your luck (and usually fail) to get in to a venue with a bit of old-fashioned flirting. With these scanning machines, you can bat your eyelashes and flash that charming grin all you like, it won’t be persuaded without the PASS mark and you won’t get in to the club.
